how we started

Hey, itโ€™s Henri. Iโ€™m the Founder of The Good Gratitude :))

The Good Gratitudeยฉ was born out of an idea I had to create a guided journal where people can write down the good things in their world. However, as I continued to build and dream, it became much more than that.

1. i love to journal

When Iโ€™m feeling anxious, I do two things: I journal and I pray.

Iโ€™ve loved journaling for years. Itโ€™s been part of my life since I was in primary school.

Over the years Iโ€™ve especially found comfort in writing down words of encouragement and affirmations to remind myself that everything will be okay.

2. my desire to share

One day in 2020, I decided that I wanted to share some of these words with others in the form of a gratitude journal.

In this journal, I thought, other people would be able to build a spirit of gratitude that will anchor them, especially when life getโ€™s hard.

Every now and then in our journal, youโ€™ll see lil "quotesโ€ from me, those are some of the words of encouragement I was writing over the years, that I wanted to feature in the journal to share with you.

3. shout out canvaยฉ

To get started, I compiled some of my words into a Canvaยฉ document, and started working away at what I didnโ€™t know then, would be called The Good Gratitudeยฉ Journal.

Back then, I didnโ€™t yet have a name, or even the slightest idea about how to start a business, I just wanted to create a journal where others could write down the good things when life gets difficult, because I knew how much it had helped me over the years.

4. my vision for the journal

As l was creating the journal, I thought a lot about how to create something that would draw out honest answers from you. Expressing gratitude must always be rooted in truth and honestyโ€“ even if the truth makes you feel a little uncomfortable. So each question was designed with honesty and truth in mind.

5. Itโ€™s all backed by research

I also knew I wanted this journal to be backed by careful research. So as I was creating it, I researched into values associated with gratitude that would lead us towards building a grateful spirit. I settled on the 9 pillars you see in your journal. They are contentment, self-love, joy, empathy, truth, recognition, appreciation, hope and patience. Then I developed the definitions of each pillar with guidance from a licensed Psychiatrist.

6. what makes it so good?

What makes this journal so good is that while this journal asks honest and open questions, itโ€™s designed to hold your hand the whole way through. It doesnโ€™t leave you in discomfort, it leads you to the other side of itโ€” to a place of growth, transformation and a deeper sense of love and contentment.

how its going

In today's fast-paced, capitalist world, gratitude often gets overshadowed. When weโ€™re feeling anxious and overwhelmed, it's so easy to forget to pause, breathe, acknowledge our blessings, and trust that weโ€™re probably doing a lot better than we think we are.

Studies show how an expression of gratitude for the things that we do have can ease depression, anxiety, stress, and even improve our sleep. So, The Good Gratitudeยฉ exists to help you foster a mindset of consistently seeing the good in your life.

To you reading this, I want to say thank you. Thank you for following the journey. Get connected on our socials and sign up to our mailing list, I hope you stick around.

Big love, deep gratitude,

Henri x
